BANGKOK, Aug 27 (TNA) – The Thai Ministry of Commerce has encouraged local producers to develop green products containing natural or organic ingredients to meet growing demand in the U.S. Malee Choklumlerd, director-general of the Ministry’s Department of International Trade Promotion, unveiled a report by its office in the U.S. Miami, saying products that use natural or organic ingredients, such as charcoals and turmeric, have proved to be more popular among young American consumers after scientific results found that they could provide some health benefits. The director-general said American consumers, particularly those, who are exposed to high level of pollution in big cities, really wanted things like antioxidant foods and detox products to maintain their good health. Therefore, this could be a good opportunities for Thai producers to develop green products to meet the growing demand in the U.S., as well as in the global market, she added. Thailand’s exports of beauty cosmetics, soaps and other skincare products totaled US$1.373 billion dollars for the first seven months of this year. The three top export markets were Japan, the Philippines and Australia. The cosmetic exports to the U.S. rose by 8.84 per cent to $21.9 million dollars during the same period. (TNA)
