Group Succeeds in Mass Production of New Oyster Brand in Miyagi

Tokyo, May 23 (Jiji Press)--A group of Japanese researchers and fishermen said Tuesday that it has succeeded in mass production of a new brand of oysters that are cultivated by utilizing tides in Matsushima Bay in Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan. General Oyster Inc. <3224>, which runs oyster bars across Japan, will sell the oysters, which the group says have a rich umami taste. The group, led by the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency, hopes that the new oyster brand will help boost reconstruction efforts in Miyagi, which suffered severe damage in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. General Oyster will sell the oysters at its 28 outlets between Wednesday and June 8. A pack of six oysters, including the new brand, will sell for 2,786 yen. END
