Growth Inclusiveness To Be A Key Component Of 11th Malaysia Plan, Says Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Growth inclusiveness will be a key component of the 11th Malaysia Plan, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Abdul Wahid Omar. Speaking to reporters at the closing of the Khazanah Megatrend Forum 2014, Abdul Wahid said the government was working with various stakeholders to prepare the 11th Malaysia Plan. "We are now working with various ministries and we have various inter-agencies who are looking at various components of the plan. "At the same time, we are also coming out with the various tools to make sure that various government projects are undertaken in a proper and transparent manner," he said. Abdul Wahid added that the discussions and resolutions from the two-day forum would assist the government in crafting the new Malaysia Plan, which will be tabled in May 2015. "We will be working with the Khazanah secretariat to look at the suggestions made over the past two days. Some of the ideas were interesting," he said. Earlier in his speech, Abdul Wahid said the government through the New Economic Model aims to ensure that economic growth is sustainable and such growth is inclusive and experienced by all Malaysians. "Various policies and strategies by the government have resulted in the country experiencing gross domestic (GDP) growth at an average of 6.3 per cent between 1970 and 2013," he said. He said Malaysia's GDP per capita had rapidly increased to US$9,654 (RM31,698) in 2013 from US$364.60 (RM1,197) in 1970. (US$1 = RM3.28) Khazanah Nasional Berhad is the Government of Malaysia's strategic investment fund. --BERNAMA
