Halal Convention To Discuss Current Status Of Malaysia's Halal Roadmap

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama) -- The two-day International Halal Certification Bodies Convention (IHCBC), to be held beginning April 3, will discuss the current status of Malaysia's halal roadmap and plans to harmonise global halal standards with overseas certification bodies. "Representatives from international halal certification bodies and Shariah law advisors will attend the forum, expected to consolidate the practical aspects of halal know-how among participants within the standards promoted by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). "Directly, this will greatly benefit the halal industry as their conformance will be standardised and their products will be well accepted within the international halal market," said JAKIM in a statement Wednesday. Themed, 'Unity in Diversity', the event is expected to attract over 800 participants comprising, among others, international halal certification bodies, shariah advisors, halal experts and local and international government officials. Meanwhile, JAKIM would also co-organise the first International Halal Technical Capacity Development Programme with DagangHalal Sdn Bhd which would be held concurrently alongside the convention. The workshop would streamline technical components amongst recognised international certification bodies, industry players who seek Malaysia's halal certification. "It will be attended by auditors from recognised international certification bodies, industry representatives and regulators," it added. --BERNAMA
