Half Yearly Transit Of Goods Amounts To Over 6m Tons

Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA – Director General of Border Transit and Terminals of the Roads Maintenance and Transportation Organization says over 6.760 million tons of commodities have been transited in the first half of the current calendar year (March 21 – Sept 20, 2014) showing an increase of 5% as compared to the same period last year. Mohammad Javad Atrchian further remarked that during the same period over 6.494 million tons or 96% of oil and non-oil goods have been transited by roads and 265 thousand tons or 4% by railroad. He said improvement of transportation infrastructure and strengthening of transit corridors through the Islamic Republic of Iran has led to an increase of 6% in roads transit in comparison with the same period last year. Atrchian said that out of the goods transited, 3.182 million tons were oil products and 3.576 were non-oil goods the most important items of which were cotton, construction materials, household appliances, and cargo and passenger vehicles. Parviz Khan Terminal, with 1.851 tons or 27% has been the most active border in terms of transit of goods in the same period followed by Bandar Abbas, Bashmaq and Bazargan border points. Meanwhile, Imam Khomeini Port (Bandar Imam) with 2.383 tons of goods or 35% ranked first, followed by Bandar Abbas, Sarakhs, and Lotfabad borders./end
