HE Al-Sada: KAHRAMAA's Tarsheed Program Received Positive Response

Doha, April 22 (QNA) - HE Minister of Energy and Industry Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada has commended the positive response to the efforts of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) to rationalize water and energy consumption.     Speaking at a ceremony organized by KAHRAMAA Tuesday evening to mark two years after the launch of its National Conservation & Energy Efficiency Program (Tarsheed), HE Al-Sada said the initiative managed over the past year to reduce the electricity consumption per capita by 10 percent and water by 6 percent, describing this as good achievements. He also hailed the positive response shown by various segments of society to the Tarsheed program.      HE the Minister of Energy and Industry highlighted the importance of conserving the energy and water resources, urging all citizens and residents in Qatar to contribute to the efforts made by Tarsheed program, which aims at promoting a conservation culture amongst the general public.     He explained that Tarsheed program seeks to reduce water consumption by 35 percent and electricity by 20 percent by 2017, while maintaining development efforts without any negative impact on quality of life. HE Al-Sada pointed out that achieving this goal would contribute to the sustainability of the resources of Qatar and its natural resources and reduce emissions and harmful carbon footprint at individuals, institutions and the state levels. Qatar has launched a variety of national initiatives to protect the natural environment, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry said, adding that these initiatives build on the Qatar National Vision, which strikes a balance between the economic and social development requirements and maintaining environment.
