Hosseini: Foreign Investment Doubled In Seven Years

Tehran, June 30, IRNA – Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance, Shamseddin Hosseini, said on Saturday that over the past seven years, volume of foreign investment in Iran doubled compared to the past 27 years. Addressing a ceremony to comment on a report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development about foreign investment in South Asia, Hosseini said $13 billion foreign investment was attracted in the years 1979 to 2005 for 200 projects and the figure rose to more than $25 billion in 2005-2013 for 631 projects. He said that Iran enjoys high capacity to attract foreign direct investment. ˈOf course, it should be pointed out that global economy has since 2007 faced an overwhelming recession and the flow of foreign direct investment suffered major setback.ˈ He said despite recession, attraction of foreign direct investment in Iran rose up by about 143 percent. Elsewhere in his remarks, Hosseini said Iranˈs economy has since the past few years undergone fundamental reforms and institutional changes./end
