Hua Wei to help develop Smart City in Thailand

BANGKOK, June 27 (TNA) - Hua Wei, China's leading digital technology firm, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to help Thailand develop the national digital economy and Smart City Project. David Sun, President of Huawei's Southeast Asian operations, and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who oversees economic affairs, witnessed the signing of the MOU between Huawei Technologies Co. and Thailand's National Science and Technology Development Agency and National Innovation Agency in Beijing on June 26. Under the MOU, both sides will develop knowledge through "Open Lab" to produce human resources for the development of the digital economy and will also conduct research and development (R&D) projects for the nationwide Smart City plan, with their activities to first begin in Bangkok. Both sides will also do R&D in relation to agriculture, the aging society and tourism. The agreed cooperation will include the establishment of an innovation center that will focus on Smart City, Internet of things, cloud computing, public safety, smart power grids, research projects on information and communication technology (ICT), personnel training and the empowerment of Thai start-ups. The MOU will valid for three years, during which Huawei will share experiences from its successful ICT projects with Thailand. (TNA)
