IDB allocates euro 200m for rural wastewater development

Tehran, Nov 22, IRNA - Ali Asghar Qane’, Planning and Development Deputy at the National Water and Wastewater Engineering Company says the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has allocated euro 200 million for the development of rural wastewater networks in the country. The official further remarked that the total banking facilities of IDB amounts to over euro 800 million a major part of which has been allocated to the water and wastewater sector of Iran. Referring to the pollution of water wells and resources caused by the flow of industrial and chemical pollutants, he said water resources due to the development especially in industry sector and use of chemical fertilizer by farmers are constantly changing but with regard to edible water there is no pollution and the quality of drinking water is constantly monitored. He noted that in case a well or a resource become polluted due to the flow of pollutants it will be substituted with a new well or resource. As for the pollution of wells in rural areas he said there is no pollution in rural water network, adding that there might be some minerals in the water in some areas but will cause no harm to health in terms of sanitation. Qane’ also pointed to the 10th water exhibition which was held in Tehran and ended on Thursday and referred to the strong presence of the private sector in the exhibition. He said the exhibition provides an opportunity for the private sector to put its achievements and modern technologies on display. He also said closer links will be established with employer water and wastewater companies in order to offer better services through interaction and convergence./end
