IEAT confident water enough for industry sector

BANGKOK, April 14 (TNA) -- The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) expressed confidence that there is adequate amount of water for industrial estates to get through the coming drought season. IEAT Governor Verapong Chaiperm said that the IEAT has been preparing measures to efficiently provide water for the industry sector and every factory within the country's industrial estates. The Governor said he is confident that there would be enough water to meet demands in the industry sector, which would not affect both the public nor agricultural sectors. He stressed the IEAT is set to reduce water losses, while planning to recycle water, as well as prepare water reserves ahead of the drought season. Presently, the IEAT is encouraging industrial estates to efficiently recycle water, recycling around 14 per cent from the total water used in all industrial estates nationwide, whereas as high as 52.28 billion cubic metres of groundwater have already been reserved, in addition to reservoirs which could cater up to 41.5 times of the daily demands to provide properly water management to ensure that all industrial estates will have enough water during the drought season. Moreover, Mr Verapong said the water situation is closely monitored in order to provide quick announcement and news on the situation to allow business owners enough time to tackle any water problems heading their way. Meanwhile, water usage in all industrial estates in the country has reached 800 billion cubic metres daily, an increase of about only 14 per cent, due to the expansion of the investments in the industry sector, adding that there should be enough water to keep all industrial estates running through the drought. The IEAT governor pointed out that the country would not be facing any water shortages during the drought season this year, as the continuous rainfalls in the previous season have increased the water reserve for the year by about 55 per cent. He said the industrial sector only uses about 2 per cent of the world water demands which helped to prevent the sector from sharing more water, especially from the agricultural sector At the same time, the IEAT is ready to provide assistance to the public residing around the industrial estates who had been affected by the drought free of charge.
