Indonesia Expands Telecommunication market To Timor Leste

Nusa Dua, Bali, July 11 (ANTARA) - Indonesia, through PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Internasional (Telin), wants to expand its international telecommunication market to Timor Leste, according to Telin President Director Syarif Syarial Ahmad. "We are interested in investing in Timor Leste because there is only one telecommunication operator in that country," he said at the Bali Annual Telkom International Conference (BATIC 2012) here on Wednesday. "The telecommunication market in Timor Leste is dominated by only one operator, so the prices for telecom services are very high. Therefore, Telin wants to enter this market," Syarif explained. "Telin will open its network through Telekomsel cellular operator, media information, consumer services, and data centres in Timor Leste," he said. For the first three years, Syarif added, Telin would invest US$30 million in order to provide telephone and internet services in the country. "The telecommunication market in Timor Leste has good potential for operators and we have set ourselves a target of 400,000 users within a year," he stated.
