Indonesia - FAO Discuss Global Marine Affairs In The Hague

The Hague, April 23, 2014 (ANTARA) - Indonesia, the World Bank and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) are discussing the global marine affairs in the Global Oceans Action Summit here on April 22-25, 2914. The Summit is particularly designed to find the solution on the sustainable utilization of coastal and marine resource. "The Summit aims to help strengthen and maintain the food resilience, the long-term availability of the proper livelihood, and accelerate the implementation of `Blue Growth`," said the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) of Indonesia, Sharif C. Sutardjo during the Summit. Sharif explained that the event also highlights the necessity to establish the cross sector partnership as it is the key to help enhance the ocean governance and overcome the limitation of the human resource capacity. "We need to raise the partnership involving the government, private sector, academics, communities, and also the civil society to bolster the implementation of the sustainable marine resource utilization," said Sharif. Sharif continued, as one of the world`s largest archipelagic states, Indonesia inevitably depends on the limited marine resource, which provides food and livelihood for more than 300 million people. "The marine and fishery resources are the global economy thrusters needed to be sustainably managed to help reduce the poverty and ensure the food resilience against the climate change," Sharif added. Sharif explained, bringing those visions to life, MMAF and the Government of the Netherlands have launched the project for Fisheries and Aquaculture for Food Security in Indonesia, that will be run for three years (2014-2016). This 4.5 million Euro-valued project, operated by Center for Development and Innovation (CDI) Wageningen University, was designed to promote the fishery products that ensure the sustainable food resilience in Indonesia.
