Indonesian Government to accelerate development of power transmission

Jakarta, 30/7 (Antara) - The government said it will accelerate implementation of plan to build 46,000 kilometers of power transmission networks as part of the plan to build power generating plants with a total capacity of 35,000 megawatts until 2019. The plan was discusse3d at a meeting of related minister led by Vice President Jusuf Kalla here on Thursday. "We met to discuss the plan to build power plants with a total capacity of 35,000 MW and 46,000 kilometers of transmission networks," Industry Minister Saleh Husin said after the meeting. The transmission systems would be built by involving the private sector, Saleh Husain said. A director of the national power utility PLN Sofyan Basir said the transmission systems would be completed in three to four years to be ready when construction of the power generating plants have been completed. "Everything has been taken into account , the standards and power price. It would help PLN much to prevent problem in the field," Sofyan said. The greatest challenge in the implementation of the power project is licensing and land clearing in the region, he said.
