Insecure Applications For Android Reaches 10 Million

Jakarta, Feb 17 (Antara) - The Kaspersky Lab has found 10 million insecure applications for Android until the end of January 2014, used by cyber criminals to spread dangerous code on the official software. "The cyber tricksters focus their activities on Android mobile devices," stated the Communications Manager of Kaspersky for South East Asia, Jesmond Chang, through a press release here on Monday. Jesmond noted that Google Play offered 1,103,104 applications until January 30, 2014, while the unofficial store has a lot of applications that are probably insecure. In a lot of cases, according to Jasmond, the insecure applications can swipe the users financial information like the mobile version of Russian Trojan Carberp case. "The Trojan stole the user credentials while it was sent to the bank server. The Kaspersky Lab expert found that the majority of insecure applications were developed in Russia," he added. To avoid malware infection, Jasmond suggested that the users deactivate the installed applications from third-party sources and developer modes on the devices. The users are also recommended to install applications from official sources only. "While installing a new application, look for the rights and obligations and use protection software to protect Android devices," he advised.
