Int'l conference on coal mining and utilization held in Thai North

LAMPANG, THAILAND, November 23 (TNA) - The state-run Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has organized the Coal Mining and Utilization for Sustainable Development International Conference (CM&USD 2017) in the Thai North, in which more than 200 academics, experts, researchers and students on coal mining from several countries participate. EGAT Deputy Governor for Fuel Thaworn Ngam-ganokwan inaugurated the CM&USD 2017 at an EGAT training center in Mae Moh District of Lampang Province on Thursday. "The CM&USD 2017 was organized for the first time with the good cooperation from leading Thai educational institutes where coal mining engineering courses are taught, namely Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Chiang Mai University in the Thai North and Prince of Songkla University in the Thai South", Thaworn said. According to the EGAT deputy governor, the CM&USD 2017 was aimed to be a platform for global participants, including those from Germany, Japan and India, to share their knowledge and experiences on the development of the coal mining industry and technologies. The EGAT deputy governor acknowledged that the CM&USD 2017 also helps enhance sound cooperation and relations between EGAT and relevant educational institutes, academics and researchers on coal mining worldwide. Besides, Thursday's international conference helps boost public confidence in the use of coal fuel for the power production through the application of advanced and efficient technologies, with sustainable community, social and environmental protection taken into account as well. Special lectures from international experts on the high efficiency low emission coal (HELE) technology, as well as challenges and solutions to the challenges in the global coal mining industry were also part of the CM&USD 2017.
