Investment climate, export support are priorities of Russia’s presidency in Eurasian Economic Union in 2018 - PM Medvedev

ASTANA, August 14. /TASS/. Investment climate, support for exports and international cooperation will be priorities of Russia's presidency in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in 2018, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting of the Eurasian intergovernmental council. "As part of the chairmanship, we plan to focus on current issues, including notorious exemptions and restrictions, and strategic tasks for the future in such areas as export support, investment climate, labor standards, innovations, interaction with international partners," he stressed. The head of the Russian government recalled that Russia is to take over the chairmanship in the EAEU in 2018. Medvedev added that he plans to attend the EXPO-2017 exhibition in Astana later today. "Holding such a prestigious international event is a proof of Kazakhstan's great achievements and new opportunities. I am confident that Astana will successfully cope with this mission," the Russian Prime Minister said. The Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) is an international integration economic association of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. The EAEU came into existence from January 1, 2015 having superseded the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAaEC) that functioned from 2000 to 2014. The Treaty on the establishment of the EAEU was signed by the presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on May 29, 2014 in Astana. The agreement is the basic document defining the accords between Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan for creating the Eurasian Economic Union for the free movement of goods, services, capital and workforce and conducting coordinated, agreed or common policies in key sectors of the economy, such as energy, industry, agriculture and transport.
