IP Project, Highly Significant For Pakistan: Analyst

Islamabad, Aug 4, IRNA – A renowned Pakistani journalist has said that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is highly significant for Pakistan and should be completed at the earliest. Talking to IRNA Asma Shirazi said that people of Pakistan want this project to be completed on time so that their energy woes could be ended. She added that Iran-Pakistan have long history of cordial relationship which are becoming even stronger with a passage of time. “Iran is strategically very important for Pakistan,” said the analyst. Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is very important for Pakistan, she said, adding that analysts say that strong relation between the two countries is very much dependent on this energy project. “Previous Pakistani government had initiated this project and the continuation of this project is one of the main challenges to the newly elected government in Pakistan,” viewed the analyst. Shirazi noted that the government of President Asif Ali Zardari has remained consistent in enhancing ties with Iran. She reiterated that strong relations between the two nations would also hurt Washington. The journalist said that President Zardari is participating in the oath taking ceremony of newly elected Iranian President Hassan Rohani which is a positive move. “This would be the last visit of Zardari as president as he has completed his tenure,” added the analyst. She said that President Zardari has always pursued anti-US politics. “IP is naturally a very important project for the people of Pakistan,” She opined, adding that this project has provided Pakistan a bargaining position with US./end
