Iran boosts Euro-4 gasoline production as it gains know-how for producing catalyst

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 26 By Khalid Kazimov – Trend: Iranian experts have produced a kind of special catalyst for producing gasoline at isomerization units. Shahrokh Khosravani, deputy director of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) has said that this kind of catalyst is the most important additive for gasoline at isomerization units of oil refineries. He said that the home-made catalyst has been used for the first time in the new gasoline producing complex of Esfahan Oil Refining Company, Mehr news agency reported. Saying that the new refinery’s capacity is 27000 barrels of crude oil, he added by launching the refinery and using the new catalyst Iran’s capacity for producing Euro-4 gasoline has increased by seven million liters per day. He speculated that the new catalyst will be used in other Iranian refineries such as Shazand, Bandar Abbas and Persian Gulf Star. He claimed that Iran is the first country in the Middle East that has obtained the technical knowledge for producing the mentioned catalyst. On the same day the Iranian deputy oil minister, Abbas Kazemi said the country’s largest gasoline producing unit in Esfahan refinery came on stream. By inaugurating the new unit, Iran’s gasoline production capacity has increased to 24 million liters per day. The second phase of the Esfahan refinery’s gasoline production unit will come on stream next year. According to Kazemi the new phase will have capacity to produce 12 million liters of gasoline per day. Kazemi further said that Iran is going to begin operating three new gasoline production complexes in the future. Once the projects including the gasoline production sections at Lavan, Bandar Abbas and Persian Gulf Star refinery come on stream Iran will only distribute Euro-4 gasoline in large cities, he added. In the first six months of the current Iranian year, 66 gasoline cargos were brought to Iran, three of which were returned due to their not meeting expected standards. Daily gasoline consumption in Iran stands at 75 million liters averagely. The country’s gasoline output is currently some 64 million liters, requiring the country to import enough to meet domestic requirements. To date, the Islamic Republic only imports Euro-4 gasoline. Iran is now importing 6.5 million liters of gasoline, on average, per day. Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
