Iran to export high voltage cables to Iraq

Tehran, Jan 17, IRNA – Iran has reached an agreement with Iraq, worth $40 million, for exporting high voltage cables to its neighboring Arab country, a local official said here on Saturday. Managing Director of Abhar Cable & Wire Co. Alireza Kolahi said in a press conference that Iran has played an active role in development of Iraq's electricity industry during the past years. Kolahi stressed that Iran also has carried out 132 kilovolt (kV) power transmission line in the southern Iraqi city of Basra. Several countries including Malaysia, South Korea, Turkey, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, UAE and Saudi Arabia were bidding to reach an agreement with Iraq for exporting high voltage cables to this Arab country, of which Iran managed to sign the agreement. Iraq has less than two hours of electricity each day, he said, adding the Iraqi market has $400 million potential in electricity industry by 2030.
