Tehran, Oct 23, IRNA – First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi issued a joint press statement on Thursday calling for further promotion of relations between the two capitals. The joint statement came at the end of al-Abadi's visit to Tehran. The two officials voiced satisfaction over the growing relations between Tehran and Baghdad and called for further promotion of ties between the two capitals. The Iraqi premier had arrived in Tehran on October 20 heading a top-ranking delegation for an official visit. Al-Abadi visited Iran upon an invitation by First Vice-President Jahangiri. The Iraqi prime minister held separate meetings with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani and a number of other high-ranking Iranian officials.
