Iran-Pakistan Security Committee To Resume Activities Soon

Tehran, May 18, IRNA – Iran-Pakistan Security Committee will resume its activities soon to boost security along joint border, Ali Abdollahi, Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Police Affairs said Saturday. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Abdollahi said that during a recent visit to Pakistan by Iranian Interior Minister Abolreza Rahmani Fazli, border issues, campaign against drug trafficking and terrorism as well as illegal border crossings were discussed. Article 7 of security deal between Tehran and Islamabad urges resumption of activities of joint security committee which had been set up by interior ministries of Iran and Pakistan, Abdollahi said. Abdollahi noted that the security deal between the two neighboring countries has been approved by parliaments of both Iran and Pakistan. Iran-Pakistan Security Committee used to meet in Iran three years ago, Abdollahi said. The next meeting was due to be held in Pakistan but the Pakistani side didnˈt hold the meeting for no good reason.
