Iran Pitches For Enhancement Of Trade Ties With India

New Delhi, Feb 26, IRNA – Iran on Monday pitched for enhancement of trade ties with India. Addressing a business meeting at the World Trade Center in Mumbai, Iran’s Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani commented on the advantages of boosting trade ties between the two friendly countries of Iran and India. He underlined the need for establishment of sustainable and lasting economic relations. “Apart from energy cooperation, Iran’s transit potential is another way to expand trade between the two countries,” said Larijani. India’s growth rate needs new markets in Central Asia and Afghanistan, and the shortest route for India is to connect through Iran, he added. Referring to bilateral trade between the two countries, the Iranian official was of the view that there is a scope to enhance the existing dlrs 16 billion viable trade to a new heights. He called on the business community to play a vital role in enhancement of bilateral trade. Larijani said there are certain countries creating hurdles in the way of enhancement of Iran’s trade relations with other countries, adding that at the same time several countries are eager to boost ties with Tehran despite anti-Iran sanctions. He said Iran’s trade with China is around $45 billion, and the figure is very significant with Turkey, Russia and others. He expressed hope that this friendly business meeting will prepare ground for better economic and industrial cooperation between the two friendly countries./end
