Iran President Calls For Changes In Economic Structures To Confront Sanctions

Tehran, Jan 17, IRNA – President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stressed the need for changes in the country’s economic structures to confront sanctions. Addressing a Majlis session on Wednesday, he outlined the steps and measures taken by the enemies to step up pressures on the Iranian nation and offered three ways to confront them. Saying that Iran might not be able to change the mentality of its enemies regarding their hostile policies towards Iran but it has three options to fight the sanctions imposed by them. He said one way was to continue with the present tactics, meaning that the government goes on with its plans to counterattack them and tries to foil their attempts through its wise plans. Another way, the president noted, was to surrender to enemies which is not suitable for such a great nation as Iran. He said the third solution was to make structural changes in the country’s economy and utilize the nation’s potential and capacities. The president maintained that foiling sanctions and disappointing enemies was only possible through making fundamental changes in economic structures. He said that it was too clear that anyone who embarks on attacking others always emerges as the triumphant one and the one who decides to adopt submissive manners has to constantly be a loser. Stating that the government is working hard round the clock to foil enemies’ plots, he said the enemies could have attained their goals was it not for the speedy actions of the Iranian government. He said enemies should know that the Iranian nation is full aware of their plots and knows that they are using nuclear issues and human rights as tools to pressure the nation. Pointing to enemies’ claims about dealing heavy blows to Iran by restricting its oil trade and imposing sanction on the Central Bank, he said sanctions have certainly caused some problems for Iran like reducing the growth rate of the country. The second problem caused by the sanctions is the pressure being exerted on a vast portion of the nation which is one of the main objectives of the sanctions. He pointed to fluctuating prices and some abnormal price hikes as the problems caused by sanctions which harm those families which have a fixed income./end
