Iran remains GECF Sec. Gen.

TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (MNA) – Competing with the other candidate from Libya, representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran was selected to remain as the secretary generals of GECF for two more years. Presided by the Nigerian Minister of Petroleum Resources Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu, the 17th Ordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) was held in Tehran on Saturday afternoon where Mohammad-Hossein Adeli was re-elected as the forum’s Secretary General for the second term. Adeli's course of activity was extended after four hours of negotiations while the meeting also took into consoderation internal issues including the forum’s budget and approved Republic of Azerbaijan's membership bid in the forum. After the withdrawal of the Nigerian representative, Adeli had to compete with the Libyan candidate and managed to obtain the maximum vote to extend his two-year period as the Secretary General of GECF. Adeli first assumed office as secretary general of GECF on January 1st, 2014 for a period of two years in accordance with the forum’s statute. Adeli, is an economist, diplomat and academic with extensive government and private sector experience in energy, economics, international relations and diplomacy and holds a PhD degree in Business Administration and a PhD in economics. He has held Government positions in Iran such as advisor to the minister of oil on international affairs, deputy foreign minister for economic and energy affairs, governor of Central Bank, advisor to President of the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as Iranian ambassador to Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom. On Monday November 23, the 3rd GECF Gas Summit will be held to discuss market outlook and strategy while dignitaries take the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the working sessions.
