Iran-Turkey accord on reducing preferential tariffs serves Turkey

Tehran, Jan 24, IRNA – Secretary General of Iran Entrepreneurship Association Hamid-Reza Ghaznavi said on Saturday that Iran-Turkey agreement on reducing preferential tariffs is fully one-sided serving Turkey. He called for review of the agreement. Ghaznavi told reporters on Saturday that the agreement, approved on May 18, has helped Turkey bolster its industries and meet the shortages in the sector, helping the Turkish industries to enhance level of output and raise exports to Iran. He said that the agreement on reducing the preferential tariffs usually reduces tariffs to a fair level but the Iran-Turkey agreement on the preferential tariffs has reduced the tariffs fully unjustly and against the Iranian industries. Ghaznavi said the agreement was compiled in the tenure of the former government and that the incumbent minister of industries, mines and trade prevented its implementation and ordered its reconsideration. He said that the Iranian industrialists and entrepreneurs are calling for review of the agreement.
