Iran, Ukraine to boost parliamentary ties

TEHRAN, Oct. 29 (MNA) – Iran’s Deputy FM Rahimpour and the Ukrainian Parliament’s Deputy Gopko at a meeting called for broadening parliamentary relations between the two sides. On the final day of Iranian delegation’s trip to Kiev, Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia-Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour met and talked with Chairman of Ukraine's Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Anna Gopko. Iranian and Ukrainian officials investigated bilateral ties in various fields and discussed venues for expansion of relations especially parliamentary ones. During the Friday meeting, Anna Gopko pointed to the significance of relations with Iran and emphasized the need to boost parliamentary collaborations. “Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's unicameral parliament, is ready to exchange parliamentary delegations with Iran and backs development of cooperation with the Islamic Republic,” she continued. The official announced that required planning in the Ukrainian parliament will be made to alleviate existing barriers to Tehran-Kiev ties. Iran’s Deputy FM Rahimpour, for his part, stressed the importance of the view held by Ukraine’s parliament towards boosting ties with Tehran and pointed to the existence of numerous venues for bilateral ties between the two sides. He further outlined the future of bilateral ties as positive, adding the two can expand relations in the areas of agriculture, energy, transportation and tourism. Rahimpour, whose three-day visit to Ukraine ended on October 28, underlined the importance of exchange of views between the two countries' parliamentarians. Rahimpour held talks with a number of top officials of the European country and investigated venues to deepen bilateral cooperation.
