Iskandar Malaysia Poised To Be Data Centre Hub for SE Asia, Says BroadGroup

KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 (Bernama) -- Iskandar Malaysia, the main southern development corridor in Malaysia's southern state Johor is consolidating its position and is poised to be a key data centre hub for Southeast Asia with its location on the opposite side of Singapore, says international consulting firm BroadGroup Consulting. Its Managing Director Steve Wallage said growth in the data centre sector has been sustained globally and its forecasts suggest tremendous expansion in Southeast Asia in the coming years. "Singapore is so far the dominant market in the region and it is a much needed opportunity for data centre businesses and investors in Southeast Asia to assess opportunities outside of the country. "Johor's proximity to Singapore and the availability of land certainly presents a powerful proposition," he said in a statement Wednesday. In support of this vision, BroadGroup will hold a regional enterprise data centre conference in Iskandar on April 8-9 for government, businesses and international experts. The company said the conference would provide a current assessment of the data centre sector in the region, new business opportunities, sector valuations, current and future risks, and the outlook for IT infrastructure assets. Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) Chief Executive Officer Yasmin Mahmood said the event is important not only to Malaysia but also to the Southeast Asia region as Iskandar increasingly takes a position as an alternative hub for hosting and colocation. She said combined with the existing data centre hub in Cyberjaya, Malaysia is poised to be the regional hub for cloud and content services. --BERNAMA
