Jahangiri Calls For Expanding Economic Co-op With Turkey

Tehran, Sept 23, IRNA -- First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri said on Monday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen on enhanced economic cooperation with Turkey. He made the remarks in a meeting with Turkish Parliament Speaker Cemil Cicek. There exists ample untapped capacity for expansion of economic cooperation between Iran and Turkey and that the Iranian officials are determined to broaden all-out cooperation with Turkey, he said. Jahangiri said that Tehran and Ankara can boost cooperation in various fields such as oil, gas, electricity and joint investments. Transfer of Iranian gas to Europe through Turkey can help enhance level of cooperation between Iran and Turkey, Jahangiri said. He said that banking cooperation between the two countries would serve to augment trade and commerce by easy transfer of foreign currencies. Jahangiri said that the visit of the Turkish parliament speaker can open a new chapter which helps consolidate ties and cooperation. The Turkish parliament speaker, for his part, said that the Turkish officials are determined to broaden relations and cooperation in various fields. He described his visit to Iran as very successful and promising and said that he conferred with Iranian officials which will lead to expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries. As two very important countries in the region, expansion of economic cooperation between Iran and Turkey is of prime importance, he said. The Turkish government is determined to broaden relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he underlined. Expansion of mutual relations and cooperation are of prime importance for both sides, he said calling for designation of special representatives to make coordination for broadening economic cooperation./end
