Jakarta Index Opened Lower Rupiah Shrinks

Jakarta, Oct 8 (Antara) - The Jakarta composite index opened 0.80 percent lower on Wednesday on negative external and domestic sentiments, analysts said. The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) fell 40.42 points to 4,992.42 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks down 1.33 percent to 841.04 points. Investors grew wary after the IMF warned of stagnation in advanced economies on Tuesday as it trimmed its growth forecast for the whole world. The IMF lowered its forecast for global growth this year to 3.3 percent down 0.1 percentage points from July and 0l4 point less than it envisaged in April, a report said. In addition new German data on Tuesday showed that the industrial production in the Europe`s largest economy had suddenly slumped 4 percent in August , the report said. Domestically the sweeping victory of the country`s People Consultative Assembly that makes or amends the country`s by the opposing the president elect Joko Widodo heightened fear of political instability in the country. Meanwhile rupiah lost more value against the US dollar trading at the level of 12,205 per dollar weakening from earlier level of 12,190 per dollar.
