Jakarta Index Opens Slightly Higher

Jakarta, Nov 27 (Antara) - The Jakarta composite index (JCI) opened slightly higher on Thursday to follow the regional trend. The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) rose 1.66 points or 0.03 percent to 5,134.70 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks up 0.05 percent to 885.01. Chief researcher of Woori Korindo Securities Indonesia Reza Priyambada said positive trend in the global market contributed to the positive sentiment on the domestic market to extend gain on Thursday. "Some market players are still buying shares keeping the JCI in a positive territory, but it still needs additional support to keep the trend," Reza said. Head of Research of Valbury Asia Securities Alfiansyah said the president`s order not to honor the parliamentary summon drawing protest from some factions could serve a negative sentiment for the market. The market also is watching how far the interpellation motion at the Parliament would go, Alfiansyah said. "Political uncertainty is feared to continue to block the JCI from rising higher," he said. Regional markets such as Hang Seng and Straits Times recorded gain in index but Nikkei declined.
