Japan’s lawmakers forecast growth of energy commodities import from Russia

ULAN UDE, August 21. /TASS/. Deputies of Japan’s parliament forecast growth of import of energy commodities from Russia, a member of Japan’s House of Councillors Tsutomu Okubo said at IV International Forum Baikal Dialogue in Ulan Ude. "After Fukushima disaster in 2011 Japan rejected using atomic power stations and shifted to heat power industry, gas and oil. Currently, Russian oil accounts for 8% of Japan’s import, while Russian gas accounts for 10%. Further on we forecast growth of import of energy commodities from Russia," he said. Tsutomu Okubo added that "given the geographical proximity and a huge resource potential Russia will become a very important partner for Japan in the field of stable energy commodities supplies." Baikal Dialogue is a platform for discussing economic cooperation and environmental protection in Siberia, Far East and the Asian-Pacific countries. Read more
