Jumping land prices seen near Thailand's special economic zone in Tak

TAK, THAILAND, September 28 (TNA) - Land prices near the Mae Sot Special Economic Zone in Tak Province in the Thai Northwest have soared for several times, but many investors have not yet bought them pending land acquisition for the zone development. Amornpan Soonthornwipat, Land Chief in Tak, Mae Sot Branch, told reporters of the update on Monday, acknowledging that local land prices have been surging since the Thai government announced to develop the special economic zone in Tak's 14 areas, including Mae Sot, Mae Ramat and Phop Phra Districts. Amornpan said the prices of land plots along main highways have been increasing fast, from about 1 million baht per rai 4-5 years ago to 20 million baht per rai now in some areas, while the price of land near a new road leading to the Second Thai-Myanmar Bridge across the Moei River has increased to 5 million baht per rai so far.
