Keidanren Head Eyes China Visit from Wed.

Tokyo, Sept. 3 (Jiji Press)--Hiromasa Yonekura, chairman of the Japan Business Federation, or Keidanren, plans to visit China from Wednesday to attend the ninth China-Northeast Asia Expo that starts in Changchun, Jilin Province, on Friday, informed sources have said. Yonekura is seeking to have contact with senior Chinese government officials during his visit through Saturday, in an effort to help mend ties between the two countries, which have soured over the Senkaku islands in the East China Sea, the sources said. The Japanese-controlled islands are also claimed by China and known as Diaoyu there. At the expo, Yonekura is expected to deliver a speech, the sources said. A delegation of Japanese business executives from the Japan-China Economic Association, including Yonekura, visited China in March and had a meeting with Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao. Meanwhile, a China visit by Keidanren officials that had been planned for May has been postponed amid the lingering tensions between the two countries. Keidanren is the biggest business lobby in Japan. END
