Khao San Road earns Thailand over Bt100m during Songkran 2015

BANGKOK, April 16 (TNA) - Thailand's Songkran Festival 2015 has actively drawn in international visitors, with the number of celebrants on Khao San Road alone, a globally-renowned tourist attraction in Bangkok, has increased by 20 per cent year-on-year, earning the Kingdom more than 100 million baht. Sa-nga Ruangwattanakul, an advisor of Khao San Road's business association, told journalists of the upbeat on Thursday, saying that Khao San Road and its vicinity welcomed up to 40,000-50,000 international visitors a day during the peak Songkran celebrating period from April 13-15, most of whom were from other Asian economies, like China, Japan and Korea. Sa-nga acknowledged that his association earlier estimated that Khao San area should attract about 30,000 international visitors daily during the Songkran Festival this year. Sa-nga revealed that business operators on Khao San Road will, therefore, hold a meeting soon to discuss special plans to draw more international visitors to the area during the Songkran or the Traditional Thai New Year Festival next year. According to the advisor, the plans include the arrangement of a fountain tunnel and the invitation of popular artists and celebrities to entertain the international travellers. (TNA)
