KL Converge: Expert Lauds Initiatives At Understanding Market Needs

By Noor Farhana Ahmad Norain and Harizah Hanim Mohamed KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysian companies involved in the content and creative industry have made strides in terms of trying to understand market needs, according an industry expert. "Now a lot of companies have advanced to better understand their market needs and buyers, which helps them to sell more," said Regis Brown, who is senior international representative of Multimedia Development Corp based in Los Angeles. He said this was not the case five or six years ago. In his presentation at a session on 'Preparing Malaysian Content for the World International Marketing' at Content Malaysia 2014 here Thursday, he touched on the importance of forging buyer-seller relations. The 25-year expert in multiple sectors in the creative industry cited the example of relations between a producer and distributors if one was considering to explore the international market. "Create several meaningful engagements before you try to sell your products to them (buyers). And remember, you have the right to be protected, so get professional legal representation before you close any deal," he said. Content Malaysia is part of the KL Converge 2014, a multi-platform digital content and creative industry conference and exhibition currently underway at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Met by reporters later, Brown said local production companies were encouraged to expand their network beyond Malaysia with a view to marketing their products to a wider market. He said that by engaging international players and understanding their needs, local companies would be able to design products that suited the target markets. "International collaboration is a way to educate yourself what the global market wants. Malaysia is capable of doing that but it's just you don't put (more) attention on that yet," Brown said. He also pointed out the challenge for companies to spend more time to work closely on the development side of the business as well as marketing, sales and distribution part of the endeavour. --BERNAMA
