Kuching To Host First ASEAN-China Entrepreneurs Conference

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), May 27 (Bernama) -- Kuching (capital of east Malaysian state) will host the first ASEAN-China Entepreneurs (ACE) Conference. The 'Conference Preview Workshop and Corporate Visit' is on Sept 10-12 this year (two-day workshop and one-day industrial visit), while the actual ACE Conference and Corporate Visit is in May 2016 (two-day conference and two-day industrial visit). Conference Advisor Senator Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem will be the guest of honour and one of the VIP speakers. The conference is a joint effort of the Sarawak Entrepreneur Association (SEA), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), China's Peking University (PKU) and FAME International College. “The conference will promote Sarawak to ASEAN countries and from there it would create business opportunities with other ASEAN countries,” said Sim at the conference launch at a hotel here Tuesday attended by Chinese Consulate General in Kuching, Liu Qian. Sim said to bring in more potential investors from ASEAN countries to Sarawak and Malaysia the government must create a one-stop centre for commerce. "In Sarawak especially, we have to be prepared and start working with the ASEAN countries since Malaysia this year is the chairman of ASEAN, which is set to create the ASEAN Community by Dec 31 this year," he added. For Sarawak to move forward, the people cannot be isolated or else the state's development and economy would be left behind, he said. Organising Chairman David Chew said: "This is a business conference, not an academic conference, so we will invite some successful and well-known entrepreneurs who have business dealings with China to share their experiences. “We will also invite the relevant authorities such as the State Planning Unit (SPU) and Ministry of Industrial Development (MID) to share on economic planning, development direction and the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) project. "We hope some Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) will be signed."
