Laos to send officials to assist workers’ nationality verification

BANGKOK, November 21 (TNA) - Two sets of Lao officials will arrive in Thailand early next month to help Thai Labour Ministry authorities in a nationality verification process of Lao people working in the Thai economy. Pichit Nilthongkum, Director of the Labour Ministry’s Office of Foreign Workers Administration, told journalists of the information on Friday, as a total of 213,374 Lao workers plus 9,139 followers have registered with the ministry’s Department of Employment. Pichit said that a centre to prove the Lao nationality will be initially established in Phra Pradaeng area of Bangkok's neighbouring Samut Prakan Province, while another set will be a mobile one. Meanwhile, official registrations of migrant workers and followers from Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia from June 26 to October 31 totaled 1,610,681, with Bangkok ranked first in the number of migrant workers and followers at 319,143 persons, followed by Chon Buri Province in the Thai East at 141,913 persons and Samut Sakhon at 98,357 persons.
