Low-income earners register for govt welfare

BANGKOK, July 15 (TNA) – About 300,000 low-income earners are expected to register themselves with the Government Saving Bank to receive the government’s welfare on the first day of the registration period, which started on Friday. Three state-owned banks – the Government Savings Bank, the Krung Thai bank and the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives are opened for the registration of low income earners during July 15 – August 15, 2016. The registrants must agree to disclose their information about their income, debts and assets. Only people, aged over 18 years old and holding Thai nationality are eligible for the registration and they must be unemployed or have income of less than 100,000 baht per year in 2015. Director of Government Saving Bank (GSB), Chatchai Payuhanaveechai said that the bank believed about 5-6 million people will register for the welfare with the GSB during the one-month registration period. After the registration, the government will have the information for arrangement of proper welfare for the poor in the future. The elderly are advised to have their family members download application form from the bank’s website, so it is easier for them to fill out the form before submitting it to the bank. (TNA)
