Low Prices Behind Energy Inefficiency

Tehran, March 30, IRNA - A deputy petroleum minister attributed low energy efficiency in Iran to unrealistic and low prices of energy carriers. Abbas Kazemi, who is also managing-director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), added that outdated and inefficient technologies are also to blame for energy inefficiency in the country, the Petroenergy news network SHANA, reported on Sunday. He stressed the need for saving energy, saying measures must be undertaken for optimal consumption of energy in the country. Kazemi called for maximum recovery from resources, seeking alternative sources of energy as well as minimizing losses. The official said highly-efficient equipment, curbing demand and using alternative sources contribute to energy saving. Kazemi warned that Iran would no longer be able to export energy by 2025 if the current energy consumption continues. “In that case, we will become a main importer of energy carriers in the world,” he said./end
