"Made in Thailand" products to be included into national agenda

BANGKOK, October 19 (TNA) - The Thai government is expected to soon approve the inclusion of the "Made in Thailand" policy into the national agenda, as proposed by the private sector. Supant Mongkolsuthree, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), told journalists on October 18 that FTI plans to propose the policy to Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha next month. Supant said that under the proposed policy, aimed to prevent the Thai economy from any serious negative impact of the dependence on imported products, both the public and the private sectors in the country would work together to promote the consumption of "Made in Thailand" products proudly and widely, focused on consumers in government agencies, state enterprises, private firms and even individual consumers, as well as importers. Supant acknowledged FTI has already set up a joint task force with the Comptroller General's Department, under the Thai Ministry of Finance, to consider procurement projects that support and include more "Made in Thailand" products. Besides, FTI is working out measures and plans on promoting and further upgrading the production of "Made in Thailand" products to keep pace with the changing global trend, namely supporting the more production of locally-produced electric vehicles, rather than those run by internal combustion engines.
