Malang Taxation Region Set To Overshoot Tax Revenue Target

Malang, East Java, April 19 (Antara) - The Malang taxation region in East Java is set to overshoot its tax revenue target of Rp10.8 trillion this year. Endang Retnowati, the head of the general affairs of the taxation directorate of the Malang region, said here on Friday that the target was already 30 percent reached in the first quarter of this year. Every year, the target is set Rp3 trillion higher but realization has always exceeded the target, Endang said. "Realization has always been larger than the target, although value added tax (VAT) on big companies like cigarette maker Gudang Garam and cosmetic producer Nivea in Singosari goes directly to the Central government," she said, adding the regional taxation office has only small share in income tax. In order to meet the target, socialization has to be intensified to develop awareness among the people of their obligation to pay tax, she said.
