Malaysia Elected As CATA President For 2015-2018

MELAKA (Malaysia), Nov 20 (Bernama) -- Malaysia was unanimously elected as Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators (CATA) president for the 2015-2018 session. Inland Revenue Board (IRB) in a statement Friday said CATA Management Committee Meeting in its 13th general meeting held here last Tuesday (17 Nov) also elected Mauritius as CATA chairman. United Kingdom held the CATA vice chairman post permanently. Also elected were 14 committee members namely India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Canada, Barbados, Botswana, Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Namibia, Malta and United Kingdom. IRB Chief Executive Officer Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar will helm the presidency representing Malaysia and Mauritius Revenue Authority Director General Sudhamo Lal will hold the chairman post for his country. The 13th CATA general meeting was held in conjunction with the 36th CATA Annual Technical Conference, which was held here for five days ending Friday. The five-day CATA 13th general meeting, which ended Friday, was held with the 36th CATA Annual Technical Conference 2015. Meanwhile, Mohd Shukor in his closing remarks at the conference's closing ceremony Friday expressed his deepest gratitude to CATA for entrusting Malaysia with the presidency post. "My deepest appreciation also goes to the outgoing managament committee members, who were unconditional in their commitment to continually give the best for CATA and its members. "I trust the new team will continue the legacy of mutual cooperation and understanding that we have fostered over the years," he said. Also present at the ceremony were Sudhamo and CATA Executive Director Duncan Onduru. The next CATA annual technical conference will be held next year and will be hosted by Barbados. -- BERNAMA
