Malaysia Fashion Week Generates US$47.7 Mln Potential Sales, Says MATRADE

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The four-day Malaysia Fashion Week (MFW) which ended on Nov 5 generated potential sales of US$47.71 million (RM201.9 million), the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) said. (US$1 = RM4.23) Chief Executive Officer Dzulkifli Mahmud in a statement Wednesday said this represents a 58.3 per cent increase over last year's edition. Of the potential sales generated, RM78.55 million was generated through the trade exhibition, RM54.45 million through the international sourcing programme and RM68.90 million via the premium and fashion buyers' meeting. "The Malaysian fashion and lifestyle sector is rapidly growing and MATRADE recognises the importance of highlighting Malaysia's capabilities in this sector to the world. "The sector, which is categorised as a soft export, is a high potential export segment that must be given top priority," he said. He added that the event is also a testament to the government's initiative to drive export contribution from the sector to the Malaysian economy. Positioned as the sole trade event dedicated for the fashion and lifestyle sector, the event featured 308 booths by local and international companies from 16 countries. -- BERNAMA
