Malaysia To Host ASEAN-OECD Meetings In March, Focus On Good Regulatory Practices

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN-Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) meeting and conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur next month will focus on the implementation of good regulatory practices (GRP) among ASEAN countries. The four-day meeting, beginning March 9, is being held in conjunction with Malaysia's chairmanship this year. It will support regional and international economic integration, as well as, better governance through GRP, in order to remove at the border and behind-the border barriers to investment and trade. The Malaysian government has made GRP a key priority to reflect the importance of having regional regulatory convergence that is essential for the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to be realised to its fullest potential. "Malaysia focuses on key priority areas that have major impact on businesses," said Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) in a statement. At the regional level, MPC said ASEAN this year would witness the process of economic integration. The best way to strengthen regulatory coherence was for ASEAN to progressively implement GRP so that its regulatory frameworks, laws and regulations go through similar processes for better results. "GRP is a means towards greater connectivity, better public service delivery inclusiveness and sustainable growth. "The ultimate beneficiaries of GRP will be the ASEAN business community and the greater ASEAN economic integration," it said, adding that GRP would contribute significantly towards enhancing regional economic integration, competitiveness and public sector governance. -- BERNAMA
