Malaysia-India To Further Enhance Bilateral Ties

Ratcharathan KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The bilateral relations between India and Malaysia are expected to strengthen further with the formation of the new government in India under the leadership of Narendra Modi. High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, T.S. Tirumurti said the relationship between the two friendly nations was growing and they had enhanced their ties substantially. "I want to say that we are probably going through the best period of India-Malaysia relations. As we know, our relations are civilizational, historical, and the friendship is very strong. "It has grown stronger over the years and the new government is very keen to not only continue our engagement with Malaysia, but also strengthen the excellent relations that we have," he told Bernama at India's 68th Independence Day anniversary reception at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here Friday night. At the event, Malaysia was represented by Natural Resources and Environment Minister G. Palanivel. Meanwhile, Tirumurti said India was looking forward to enhance the cooperation especially in social sectors including education and health. "I'm very optimistic that we can very soon look forward to a big jump in our relationship especially in the social sectors," he added. India celebrates its Independence Day on August 15 every year to commemorate the nation's independence from the British Empire on Aug 15, 1947. -- BERNAMA
