Malaysia, Indonesia Sign MoU To Extend ICT Sector Collaboration

From Azizul Ahmad JAKARTA, Dec 2 (Bernama) –- Multimedia Development Corp (MDeC) and Indonesia's Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. The MOU is an extension of the collaboration that was inked between both parties on Dec 8, 2011. MDeC chief executive officer, Yasmin Mahmood, said both countries would use ICT to benefit the rakyat of both countries. "I hope in the short term, this government-to-government (g-to-g) platform will entice our private sector to find ways to collaborate with their counterparts in Indonesia," she said. Yasmin and chairman, Abdul Halim Ali, represented MDeC at the signing ceremony. BPPT was represented by its head, Dr Ir Unggul Priyanto and its deputy chairman for information technology, energy and material, Dr Ir Hamman Riza. On Dialog Group’s ‘MyKasih’ welfare programme at Giant Hypermarket in Manggarai which was held here Sunday, she said without the g-to-g platform, it would be difficult for the private sector company to implement its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. Dialog, via its entity in Indonesia, PT Dialog, extended its CSR effort to Indonesia, by subsidising food aid to 100 families at the Manggarai and Rawajati districts here since a year ago. "The MyKasih pilot project, which uses a smart card linked to the Indonesian electronic Kartu Tanda Penduduk (KTP), is one of the initiatives facilitated by MDeC and BPPT to realise the electronic identification (eID) collaboration," she said. The MOU also calls for collaborations in 1Asean Card initiative, cross-border security and tourism, as well as engagement with other Asean countries. Meanwhile, Abdul Halim said the proposed implementation of Asean Economic Community next year will much rely on IT. "Free flow of human capital, good and services require efficient documentation and system that involve IT. I hope Asean countries will give good support in the IT collaboration to be proposed," he said. -- BERNAMA
