Malaysia, Japan Ink MoC To Enhance Cooperation In Information And Communications

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Japan have agreed to enhance cooperation in the field of information and communications sectors, especially on broadcasting and cybersecurity. This follows the signing of Memorandum of Co-Operation (MoC) on Information and Communications between Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Minister Dr Salleh Said Keruak (right) and Japan's Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Sanae Takaichi (centre) here Tuesday. According to a statement issued by the International Division of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, the MoC aimed to enhance cooperation in the field of information technology, especially the use of information and communication technology for disaster management, ICT aspect of cybersecurity, Mobile Digital Wallet, 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). "With the signing of MoC, both countries agree to encourage activities in broadcasting sector such as coproduction in broadcasting productions including digital content, conduct exchanges of expertise as well as cooperation in digital related system for the benefits of both countries," it said. The statement said the idea to establish the MoC in the field of information and communications was initiated in 2014. The MoC will also pave the way for the realisation of increased long term opportunities in the ASEAN market in areas such as investment, trade and tourism, encouraging further collaboration efforts in the field of information and communications as well as to spur the growth of local creative industry. The initiative will entail several collaboration programmes on information and communications such as exchange of information on policy and regulations as well as development of human capital in ICT, it said. It said the signing of the MoC signalled a commitment by two countries to work together on the information and communications sector, especially in broadcasting while strengthening the existing bilateral relations. The signing was witnessed by Communications and Multimedia Ministry Secretary General Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Malaysia, Dr Makio Miyagawa. When met by reporters after the event, Salleh said countries globally were now giving attention and priority to cyber security. "As such, this cooperation (Malaysia dan Japan) is very important. Besides Japan, Malaysia also collaborates with other countries in the field of cyber security," he said. (photoBERNAMA) --BERNAMA
