Malaysia Seeks To Expand Creative And Multimedia Content Industry To Indonesia

By Azeman Ariffin JAKARTA, May 8 (Bernama) -- Twenty-six Malaysian companies from the creative and multimedia content industry are on a two-day visit to Jakarta from Thursday, in a bid to expand their business to Indonesia. Led by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), the delegation is also looking out for business partners and has had 320 various business meetings attended by more than 100 industry players from the country. The Matrade trade commissioner in Indonesia Naim Abdul Rahman said the companies involved include animation film production houses and those producing dramas for television. "The presence of the Malaysian creative industry and multimedia content players has been well received and many of their Indonesian counterparts have shown an interest in cooperating with them," he told Bernama. Meanwhile, Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia Zahrain Mohamed Hashim when officiating the meeting between the industry players said the creative and multimedia content industry, clearly had opportunities to fast expand in both countries. "For example, the Malaysian animation film, Upin and Ipin as well as the cartoon, BoBoiBoy, were well received by Indonesians. The Indonesian drama, Sinetron on the other hand, was much liked by Malaysians as the people of both countries can understand the language," he added. He said due to this, the industry should not just be seen from the aspect of business, but also as a means of expanding the language and culture of both Malaysia and Indonesia. "The cooperation and business relations forged will also help in the realisation of the ASEAN Community," Zahrain added. -- BERNAMA
