Malaysia Showcasing Agricultural Products In Rotterdam

By Nasriah Darus KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- After touring Sweden, Finland and Romania, the Malaysian agricultural product promotion in Europe for 2016, organised by the Malaysian Agriculture Representative Office in The Hague (PPP The Hague), is being showcased in the Netherlands. A wide variety of fruits, considered exotic in Europe, such as dragon fruit, mangosteen and jackfruit and durian, the king of fruits, are being arrayed at the one-week promotion starting Monday. Agricultural products such as jackfruit chips and pineapple chips are also being promoted. The programme is held in collaboration with a renowned Asian supermarket in Rotterdam, Wah Nam Hong in Markthal Rotterdam. PPP Second Secretary of Agriculture at the Embassy of Malaysia in The Hague Mohammad Wafiuddin Esa said about 2,000 customers were expected to sample and buy Malaysian agricultural products during the promotion at the port city. He said the programme at the Wah Nam Hong Markthal Rotterdam was the fourth in a series of campaign this year. "This time around the promotion is longer than before, while the menu being promoted uses Malaysian fruits and products," he told Bernama when contacted. In addition, he said the showcase was being promoted on social media by food bloggers and local newspapers. Mohammad Wafiuddin said the promotion of agricultural products at major supermarkets in all the four countries managed to entice consumers on the quality of Malaysian agricultural products. "This promotion attests the marketability of Malaysian agricultural products in the Netherlands," he said. The Malaysian agricultural product promotion in Europe began in the Netherlands in 2014 before the PPP The Hague worked with major supermarkets in Malmo, Sweden and Oslo, Norway to penetrate the Scandinavian market. This year, the tour of Europe kicked off in Malmo followed by Helsinki and Bucharest. Malaysia exported fruits worth US$10.37 million (RM43.41 million) to Europe last year. --BERNAMA
