Malaysia Will Fix Date To Meet Singapore's MoT On HSR

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will propose a date to meet officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Transport (MoT) on the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, says Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali. "I will certainly come up with another proposal sometime in August and we will firm up the date. "(Infact) the date has been fixed,” he told reporters at Parliament Tuesday. The economic minister also clarified that he did not meet any official from Singapore MoT during his recent visit to Singapore, adding that “they were right (that I did not meet any Singapore officials). When I mentioned yesterday (Monday), did I say I met officials from MoT?” Azmin said the island-republic's MoT had proposed to meet before July 31, however, officials from Malaysia were preoccupied with the Parliamentary session and some domestic issues. He believed there would be no problem between Malaysia and Singapore to sit together and discuss HSR issues, as well as, that of other options. Asked on whether the meeting would discuss the possibility of compensating Singapore, he said “will be discussed. I’m not in position to share with you at the moment.” “Certainly, I will present our case to Singapore (with) the mandate given to me by the Cabinet. It is only fair for them to have this opportunity to listen to me at the official meeting. "What's important is, we must ensure the whole process is transparent and we must follow the rule of law and the due process,” he explained. -- BERNAMA
